In keeping with the History Center’s mission to promote the understanding and enjoyment of San Luis Obispo County history, the History Center began a new publishing initiative in 2015. Our first project was the restart of La Vista, a journal of San Luis Obispo County and Central Coast History, which was published sporadically from 1968 into the 1980s by historians and Cal Poly professors Loren Nicholson and Dan Krieger.
La Vista was published quarterly from the late 1960s through the early 1980s and featured articles about the people and places of San Luis Obispo County’s past. The journal’s founding editor was Loren Nicholson, author, Cal Poly professor and one-time president of the San Luis Obispo County Historical Society (now the History Center). Other notable authors included Elliot Curry, editor of The Telegram Tribune from the 1940s through 1970s; Harold J. Miossi, environmental advocate, historian and philanthropist; Historical Society curator Louisiana Clayton Dart; local historian Constance Van Harreveld; and Dan Krieger, Cal Poly professor emeritus and author.
