Doing Good and Living Well: Archie McLaren and the Central Coast Wine Classic

Doing Good and Living Well: Archie McLaren and the Central Coast Wine Classic chronicles the thirty-three-year history of San Luis Obispo’s festival of wine, food, and philanthropy. The Wine Classic raised millions for 130 Central Coast charities; promoted cooking, tasting, and pairing knowledge with dozens of symposia; and exposed local wines to an international audience through its extravagant dinners and auctions. The exhibition is on view at the History Center, 696 Monterey Street, San Luis Obispo, Wednesday–Monday 10–4, till 19 March 2018.

Archie McLaren, the co-founder and longtime executive director of the Wine Classic, drove its experimentation with food, art, music, and the local landscape. He arrived on the Central Coast in 1974 in the midst of the California Wine and Food Revolution and became one of its pivotal figures.
