Public History Day: Japanese Families of SLO County

February 19 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Free

Historians will be on hand throughout the day to scan family photographs, record personal stories, and discuss new ways that we can continue working together to collect and preserve the history of Japanese Americans on the Central Coast. Call (805) 543-0638 or email cindy@historycenterslo.org for more information.

February 19, 2017 is the seventy-fifth anniversary of Executive Order 9066, which paved the way for the exclusion and detention of more than 110,000 people of Japanese ancestry who were living on the west coast of America. Tranquility Disrupted: Japanese Exclusion and San Luis Obispo County, a new exhibition at the History Center Museum, will explore the affects of this mass incarceration on the Central Coast.
