The SLO County Food History Study Group meets monthly to research and discuss the food and agriculture history of San Luis Obispo County and the surrounding Central Coast region, including cattle, sheep, and dairy ranching; fishing; fruit, vegetable, and grain growing; wine production; and organic farming, as well as cooking and consumption. From the North County mountains to the Pacific, San Luis Obispo basks in a Mediterranean climate with fertile soils and a wide variety of micro-climates. Its communities represent the diversity of cultures that settled here starting in the late 18th century, as well as the native peoples whose connections to the area go back thousands of years. The foods we grow and eat today are inspired by the land and the people who have lived here.
