The House

 

The house is a snap shot of a time gone by. The Dallidet home is very special in that it was inherited from a family member and therefore much of the family belongings are still inside the house. Most of the furnishings inside the house were acquired through the years by the Dallidet family. The hand-painted and carved furniture in the master bedroom depicts scenes from Tahiti. The shelves in the library contain books, in both French and English, from the extensive collections enjoyed by the family. The three camphor wood chests are from the early China trade and are covered with hand-painted leather. On display in the house is some of the art work of the eldest daughter, Maria Ascencion Dallidet.
Perhaps the most interesting feature of the house is that it was an adobe constructed with a wine cellar. This makes the house unique as to the early adobes in California. This feature was a characteristic French tradition to the region that Pierre Hypollite Dallidet came from.
